Grisoll vs Nuki vs Yale: Which Smart Lock Fits Your Door?

Nuki, Yale and Grisoll all make keyless smart locks for European and UK homes, but they work in very different ways. This guide explains the differences honestly, so you can choose the right lock for your door, even if that isn't ours.

The short answer: Nuki and Yale Linus clip onto the inside of your existing euro cylinder, so you keep your outside key and add a keypad or fingerprint reader separately. A Grisoll lock replaces your handles and lock with one complete unit, with fingerprint, keypad, card, app and key entry built in, and no subscription.

Which lock should you choose?

Choose Nuki or Yale Linus if…

  • You rent, or don't want to change your door hardware. A retrofit lock comes off and leaves your door as it was.
  • You're happy to use your phone, or buy a separate keypad, to get in.
  • Your insurer requires a TS007 3-star cylinder that you already have fitted.

Choose Yale Conexis L2 if…

  • You have a UK uPVC multipoint door and want to keep the multipoint locking.
  • You're happy using key cards, tags or your phone instead of a fingerprint.

Choose Grisoll if…

  • You want fingerprint, keypad, card, app and key in one lock, with nothing extra to buy for everyday use.
  • Your door has a mortise sashlock (lever handles on a long plate, with a key cylinder below), as on many timber, steel and aluminium doors in the UK, Netherlands and Belgium.
  • You want no monthly fees, ever.
  • You want a lower total cost for fingerprint entry plus remote access.

The honest trade-offs

Installation: retrofit locks like Nuki and Linus are quicker to fit because they don't touch the outside of the door. A Grisoll lock replaces your handles, and sometimes the mortise lock body, so it takes longer. Most people fit one in about an hour with a screwdriver.

Fit: Grisoll mortise locks use an 85mm centre distance, the distance between the handle spindle and the key cylinder. Many German, Dutch and Belgian doors use 72mm, and UK multipoint doors often use 92mm. Measure first using our Find Your Fit guide, or email us a photo.

Insurance: some UK home insurance policies require locks to meet a standard such as BS3621 or TS007. Check your policy before you change any lock, whichever brand you choose.
