How to Install a Grisoll Smart Lock

Most Grisoll mortise smart locks (VANTA, ATLAS, TORO, JUNO, JUNO+ and AURA) fit in the same way, and most people finish in about an hour without a locksmith. This guide gives you an overview so you know what to expect. Always follow the printed manual for your exact model.

Before you start: check your door thickness, backset and 85mm centre distance on our Find Your Fit page. Fit and test the lock with the door open, and keep the backup keys with you, not inside the house.

What you'll need

  • Phillips (cross-head) screwdriver
  • Tape measure or ruler, in millimetres
  • 4 × AA batteries (check your model's manual), plus your phone with the free TTLock app installed
  • A chisel, only if the new mortise lock body is a different size from your old one

Step by step

  1. Remove your old handles and cylinder. Unscrew the inside handle plate, slide out the handles, then remove the cylinder by undoing the long screw on the door edge and turning the key slightly as you pull it out.
  2. Fit the mortise lock body (if needed). If your Grisoll lock includes a lock body, unscrew the old one from the door edge and slide in the new one. Check the latch faces the right way for your door. Most latches can be reversed for left- or right-hand doors.
  3. Fit the outside panel. Feed the cable through the door, line up the spindle with the lock body, and hold the outside panel flat against the door.
  4. Fit the inside panel. Connect the cable to the inside panel, then screw the two panels together through the door. Don't overtighten. The handles should move freely.
  5. Add batteries and test with the door open. Check that the handle, latch and deadbolt move smoothly, and that the backup key works.
  6. Pair the app and add users. Open TTLock, add the lock over Bluetooth, then register fingerprints (two fingers per person is best), passcodes and cards. Add the WiFi Gateway if you want remote access.
  7. Close the door and test again. Try every entry method from both sides before you rely on it.

Tips for a smooth fit

  • If the handle feels stiff after fitting, loosen the through-bolts slightly. Stiffness usually means the panels are pinching the spindle.
  • If the door has to be pushed or pulled to lock, adjust the strike plate on the frame. Smart locks work best on doors that close without force.
  • Register fingerprints with the same finger angle you'll use every day.
